Chiasso wins two Medals at the AICA 2019

This year we have added two more medals to the trophy cabinet, this time both in the immersion category. Popular types of immersion coffee makers are the Aeropress and the Clever Coffee Dripper, as well as the old faithful Plunger (aka French Press for our European friends).

We won a Silver Medal for Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Kochere and a Bronze Medal for Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Chelchele.  These coffees are both pretty special and they taste great in just about any method, but we especially recommend these coffees be enjoyed through a filter (Aeropress, Hario, Clever Coffee Dripper etc) or plunger.

With the New Zealand Coffee Awards finishing up a number of years back we've had to look further afield to benchmark our beans. This comes with added costs and complexity, meaning we have to be ultra selective with the coffees that we choose to enter. This year we selected two of our Ethiopian single origins for entry in the Filter categories. Both of these entries picked up medals so we chose pretty well!

Over the last four years in the Australian International Coffee Awards we've won four medals as well as a champion trophy. Not a bad haul considering the coffee has to be roasted well in advance and sent by airfreight over to Australia.

Our specialty coffee is roasted on our micro roaster, the New Zealand made Stonka.  It’s all down to timing and experience with the Stonka. This is a traditional drum style coffee roaster and can manage only 2 - 3 kg batches at a time. We have been busy roasting on it lately to ensure there are plenty of the award winning beans to go around! Note to the faithful - we are almost out of Ethiopian Kochere now (we were pretty low on this already following last year's amazing results). So get in quick if you want to try this multi-award winning harvest from Kochere. The jury is still out on whether we will be able to source more of this.
